Learn, Earn, and Payback (L.E.A.P.)


L.E.A.P. (Learn, Earn, and Payback) is a WIB-endorsed vocational/work readiness program. Progress is evaluated through curriculum completion and its associated testing. Participants learn valuable life and employment skills while earning money.

Program Objectives

The purpose of the program is to provide education, guidance, and support in order to enhance knowledge of the working field. The program focuses on matching the participant's skills with the current employment trends. The program utilizes RIASEC inventory matched with the current Occupational Outlook Handbook to provide participants updated information about the job market. The program also focuses on ways to enhance and maintain employment. Before participants begin work-crew projects, they must follow a 10-hour OSHA General Industry Safety Program and obtain OSHA certification. Safety Standards and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is strongly emphasized during the work-crew projects. Utilizing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) principles, LEAP provides participants knowledge in problem solving, computer skills, computing measurements, and much more. Through instruction and guidance, the youth will have an opportunity to learn and enhance the following job skills:

  • Interviewing Skills/Practice
  • On-the-job skills
  • Employment maintenance
  • Conflict Resolution (Coworkers/Employers)
  • Personal skills: dependability, reliability, responsibility, independence
